This month I've been posting ideas related to documenting employee performance. In my training classes, supervisors always give me great ideas for doing this tough task with less pain. Here are a few tools that you might want to try:

Use a performance log. I blogged about logs a few weeks ago. Look at the archive of this blog for an example.

Microsoft Outlook. You can use outlook to send yourself or the employee emails about their performance. You can use the recurring task function in Outlook to automatically remind yourself to make some notes on a weekly basis. You can use the calendar function in Outlook to note specific events the employee participated in.

The performance evaluation form itself. Save one copy of your organization's evaluation form for each employee. During the year, type your notes and examples of performance right into the form in the section that is most appropriate. Don't forget to include the date! When the time comes to complete the evaluation form, you'll already be at the editing stage.
