Blog Post: The Myth of Money or Why is Developing Great Leaders So Important?

posted Friday, September 4, 2009 8:14 AM

When managers are asked why people leave an organization, the most common answer is that it's because of money.

But, when departing employees are asked the same question, it's typically less about the money and more about the manager.  They quit their jobs because their manager doesn't  appreciate what they do.  Sometimes they say their manager is a bully or tyrant.

Just because someone is a good manager, it doesn't mean he/she is a good leader. Leadership is important for many reasons and employee retention is one of the most important.  A good manager/leader gets things done with people.

Watch the video from a recent conference where I talked about leadership and why it's important.

Cheers!
