Blog Post: Go from KNOWING to GROWING - Achieve it with a Coach

posted Friday, July 17, 2009 4:50 PM

We all have a personal list of things we want to accomplish in our lives.  When you think about it, you probably already “know” how to make those things happen.  You could probably sit down with paper and pencil in hand and etch out action plans to make any one of them a reality, right?  However, if you’re like most people, you still haven’t begun that process, even with your top priorities.

Your personal list might include one or more of these:

·          Find a new job

·          Keep your job and/or advance your career

·          Rethink your path in life

·          Further your education

·          Expand your business or personal network

·          Improve your relationship with important others

·          Create a budget and stick to it

·          Change your eating habits for the better

·          Strengthen your body

·          Sort and organize your work and/or living space

·          Replace worrisome thoughts with positive thoughts

·          Add more enjoyment to your life with hobbies, activities, etc.

·          Make time to explore and create so you can live YOUR life instead of someone else’s

Now that you’re thinking of it, choose one of your personal goals and etch out an action plan.  Include dates.  Go ahead, experiment:

One of my important personal goals is:

These are the steps I know I need to take and complete by these dates:

1.        First step, and by when:

2.        Second step, and by when:

3.        Third step, and by when:

4.        (Add more steps and dates – you have the picture!)

For strongly self-motivated, personally accountable people, this may be all it takes.  They will seriously focus on their goals, define and complete action steps to accomplish what they want – consistently.  Are you one of them?  If so, congratulations, and you have earned the admiration of the rest of us!  If you are not in that category, then maybe you could use some support in moving from KNOWING into GROWING toward who you want to become – support in the form of a professional coach.

Coaches can help you grow into being more personally accountable to achieving your own priorities.  More and more successful people employ business and/or life coaches to help them take steps to make their wish lists produce the realities they really want in their lives.

Find out how it works.  Talk with a professional International Coach Federation (ICF) certified coach about where you want to grow, and find out how you can start making real progress with your own personal list of priorities.  ICF coaches are professionally trained and ready to support you.  They will hold you accountable to YOURSELF in moving from “knowing” to “growing.”
